Francis C. Hammond Middle School’s (Hammond) Laura Ibrahim was recognized as the Virginia String Teachers Association's (VASTA) 2025 Orchestra Director of the Year. The award was presented to the instrumental music teacher during the Virginia Music Educators Association (VMEA) annual meeting in Norfolk.
VASTA cited Ibrahim’s hard work and dedication to String Music Education, as well as her profound impact on many young musicians, in singling her out to receive this honor.
The VASTA award recognizes an orchestra director who has exhibited the highest levels of leadership, dedication and achievement, resulting in major advancement of their program.
Ibrahim was nominated by several Hammond colleagues and Veronica Jackson, Alexandria City High School’s orchestra director and 2024 recipient of the VASTA Orchestra Director of the Year award.
