Wendy Morciglio Promoted to Assistant Principal at Mount Vernon Community School

Wendy Morciglio has been promoted to assistant principal at Mount Vernon Community School (Mount Vernon) for the new school year, effective July 28, 2026. In this role, she will assist Mount Vernon’s principal in leading the instructional program, promoting a state-of-the-art curriculum and superior instructional delivery for the success of all students. 

Morciglio is a highly-motivated and enthusiastic educator who is eager to contribute her skills in communication, collaboration and data analysis to support the mission of high academic achievement and student success.

Morciglio first joined Alexandria City Public Schools (ACPS) in 2019 and served in various roles, most recently as Mount Vernon’s dual language instructional coach and the after school tutoring coordinator for grades one through three. She was also the principal for ACPS’ Dual Language Summer Language Academy and instructional coordinator for the Summer Language Academy at George Mason Elementary School. When she first came to ACPS, Morciglio served as the kindergarten dual language lead teacher at Mount Vernon.

Previously, Morciglio was a kindergarten Spanish immersion teacher at Laurel Ridge Elementary School for Fairfax County Public Schools in Virginia, a lead pre-K teacher at Paterson Public Schools in New Jersey and a high school English teacher at Escuela Superior José Felipe Zayas, in Coamo, Puerto Rico.

Morciglio earned a Bachelor of Arts in elementary education from the University of Puerto Rico, in Ponce and a Master of Education in educational leadership from George Mason University, in Fairfax, Virginia. She also has English as a Second Language certification from the Caribbean University in Ponce, Puerto Rico and Early Childhood Education certification from Montclair State University in Montclair, New Jersey. 

Morciglio is a proud 2024 Anne R. Lipnick Award recipient for specialized instruction.
