ACHS Celebrates the Titan Class of 2023

ACHS Celebrates the Titan Class of 2023

Alexandria City Public Schools (ACPS) celebrated the Alexandria City High School (ACHS) Class of 2023 at a graduation ceremony held on June 3, 2023, at George Mason University EagleBank Arena. Of the 898 Titans in this year’s graduating class, more than 600 plan to attend college and 16 graduates plan to serve in the military, with others reporting they will attend a vocational program, take a gap year or begin employment. Twenty athletes signed letters of intent to compete in collegiate athletics. Through the generosity of The Scholarship Fund of Alexandria, 208 graduates were awarded scholarships totalling $627,000.

“It fills me with joy to see the Titan Class of 2023 receive their diplomas and celebrate their achievements. We admired their resiliency and creativity as they learned, explored life and contributed to our community. I am so proud of them. As they enter a world overflowing with challenges and infinite opportunities, I encourage them to remember our Titan community and embrace their potential and their courage to make their mark on this world,” said ACHS Executive Principal Peter M. Balas.

The Titan Class of 2023 has unique stories of leadership and creative contributions to the Alexandria community and beyond. A blacksmith, a bagel company founder, an international dancer, an advanced mathematician, a Futsal World Cup goalkeeper and the creators of ACHS’s first Women of the Future Club were among the students who graduated this year. Four graduates were on the ACHS state champion volleyball team in 2022, with two of them also winning the state championship in 2020.

“If there is one thing we can be sure of, we know our Titans are ready for life, college and careers,” said Interim Superintendent Dr. Melanie Kay-Wyatt in addressing the Class of 2023, their families and dignitaries including School Board Chair Meagan L. Alderton, School Board members, Alexandria City Mayor Justin Wilson, Vice Mayor Amy Jackson and ACPS leadership, among others. “Our Titan Class of 2023 is an impressive group with many accomplishments to celebrate, and I want to extend my congratulations to our new graduates. Their hard work and dedication helped them reach this exciting milestone, and they each have the ability to fulfill their personal dreams.”

For the senior class gift, a portion of its remaining class funds was given to the rising seniors class bank and a $3,000 scholarship, named the Fantastic Five Scholarship, will be awarded to a deserving Titan in the upcoming school year. After diplomas were handed out and the graduates received congratulations, the Class of 2023 turned their tassels and tossed their caps into the air, symbolizing their joy in academic achievement and bright futures ahead.
