ACPS Announces Kenard Robinson as Principal of Patrick Henry

Kenard Robinson has been selected as the new principal of Patrick Henry K-8 School (Patrick Henry), effective July 1, 2024. As principal, he will establish and maintain the school philosophy and educational programs consistent with the mission set forth by the Alexandria City Public Schools’ (ACPS) leadership team.

“Guiding our Patrick Henry school community with a blend of vision, action and the belief that every student is capable of success are the attributes that Mr. Robinson embodies. Through the lens of data-driven insights, he is poised to work with staff to craft tailored learning experiences that nurture individual readiness and preferences and foster a culture of purposeful growth,” Chief Academic Officer Dr. Pierrette Finney said. “With a rich background spanning from counseling to administration, Mr. Robinson brings a holistic perspective to leadership, inspiring excellence at every turn. In his hands, Patrick Henry will continue to be a beacon of possibility and excellence, where every student's potential is not just realized but celebrated.”

As a native of Washington, D.C., Robinson enlisted in the United States Navy following high school and served our country for eight years. Pursuing his passion for education, Robinson held various roles to include dean of students, principal, assistant principal, school counselor, parent/attendance coordinator and substitute teacher. In addition, Robinson serves as a professor at Trine University within their School of Education “Transition to Teaching” program. His diverse experiences have equipped him with a deep understanding of the needs and challenges facing students, teachers and families.

Robinson earned his bachelor's degree from Old Dominion University. He also has a master’s in education from Indiana University and a master’s in educational leadership from Indiana Wesleyan University. In the fall of 2025, Robinson plans to pursue his doctorate in education from Virginia Commonwealth University.

Robinson is committed to creating a supportive and inclusive learning environment where every student can thrive academically, socially and emotionally. He is dedicated to fostering strong partnerships with students, families, teachers and the broader community to ensure that all students receive a high-quality education that prepares them for success in college, career and life.
