ACPS Appoints Dr. Seazante` W. Oliver as Principal of Northern Virginia Juvenile Detention Center
Alexandria City Public Schools (ACPS) is pleased to announce that Dr. Seazante` W. Oliver has been appointed as the principal at Northern Virginia Juvenile Detention Center (NVJDC), effective Sept. 3, 2024. Dr. Oliver has served the students and staff of the NVJDC as acting principal over the past six months. Previously, she served as the principal at George Mason Elementary School. She also worked at George Washington Middle School, providing academic and administrative support.
She joined ACPS in 2012 as the assistant principal at George Mason. She then served as interim principal at Cora Kelly School for Math, Science, and Technology during the 2016-17 academic year. Dr. Oliver has also served as summer enrichment principal at Patrick Henry K-8 School and Douglas MacArthur Elementary School.
Prior to joining ACPS, Dr. Oliver served as a teacher, lead teacher, summer program coordinator, assistant principal, and principal in the Hampton Roads area. During her tenure in Hampton Roads, Dr. Oliver’s Title I school earned national recognition from the United States Department of Education as a National Blue Ribbon School for closing achievement gaps. In recognition of her leadership, dedication and student-centered focus, Dr. Oliver was inducted into the Cambridge Who’s Who Executive, Professional and Entrepreneurial Registry.
Fostering a caring culture of collaboration within the learning community, while equitably meeting the needs of diverse learners, is a priority for Dr. Oliver. She believes that there is no success that is ever attained individually; it is the collective efforts of many.
Dr. Oliver earned her Bachelor and Master of Arts degrees from Norfolk State University and her education specialist degree and Doctorate in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies from The George Washington University. She completed coursework to earn credentials as an English Speakers of Other Languages educator from the University of Virginia.

Her expertise in addressing the diverse needs of students, particularly those in alternative settings, makes her an invaluable addition to the NVJDC."
Dr. Oliver brings more than 25 years of experience in the field of education to this new principal appointment. She looks forward to continuing the teamwork approach toward continuous improvement, growth and success for the NVJDC learning community.
