The National School Public Relations Association (NSPRA) announced the appointment of Alexandria City Public Schools (ACPS) Chief of School and Community Relations (SCR) Julia Burgos to its Executive Board. Burgos will serve a two-year term as the NSPRA vice president at large for engagement. She is the first to serve in this new board position which was approved by the Executive Board in July 2022 to further professional development opportunities that strengthen members’ skills in stakeholder engagement, support efforts to review/develop rubrics of practice around stakeholder engagement and engage NSPRA members in national efforts around support for public education.

“I am proud of the communications and engagement work we are doing in ACPS and am excited to join the NSPRA executive board. As an active leader in our regional association, I look forward to leveraging my role as an NSPRA leader to support members with professional learnings, connect with local chapters on their membership and outreach to school communications professionals in their regions, create affinity groups to work through problems of practice and explore mentorship programs for our newest members,” said Burgos.

Burgos joined ACPS in July 2020; as SCR chief, she supports the superintendent as a member of the Senior Leadership Team, serves as the division spokesperson and oversees the Office of Communications and the Office of Community Partnerships and Engagement. She is the immediate past president of the Chesapeake School Public Relations Association (CHESPRA). With more than 30 years of experience in government, public relations, non-profit and program administration, Burgos came to ACPS from Arlington Public Schools where she served as chief of staff. She holds a master’s degree in public relations and corporate communications from Georgetown University and a bachelor’s degree in communications and a minor in Spanish from Iona College.
