ACPS Department of Student Services and Equity Welcomes Dr. Victor Martin as Executive Director of Student Support Teams

Alexandria City Public Schools (ACPS) is pleased to announce that Dr. Victor Martin has been selected as the new executive director of student support teams for the school division. He will transition into this role as of Sept. 22, 2022, from his current position as principal at the Northern Virginia Juvenile Detention Center in Alexandria. Previously, Dr. Martin served as the first ACPS director of equity, as well as the director of alternative programs and equity. He was also the principal of Chance for Change Academy. In addition, he works with Georgetown University in its Center for Juvenile Justice and Reform.

Dr. Martin has international teaching experience, serving as a lead instructor for an English acquisition program in China, and has worked with the U.S. Department of Education to collaborate with the education system at Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota. As a teacher, Dr. Martin worked for Prince William County Public Schools in Va. and in San Diego, Ca. where he began his teaching career.

Dr. Martin earned a bachelor’s degree from Oswego State University in NY where he majored in English and a master’s degree from George Mason University in education leadership. He was a fellow in the National Institute for Urban School Leaders at Harvard University in 2013. He earned his doctorate in educational leadership from the University of Pennsylvania.

Dr. Martin holds an office in the Virginia Alternative Educators Association and is a member of the Research Council for MSAN. He was also a contributing author in Strategies in Action: A Collection of Classroom Applications, Volume 1 (2009). A new principal will be selected for the Northern Virginia Juvenile Detention Center in the coming months.
