ACPS Poetry Ceremony

ACPS Poetry Ceremony

Alexandria City Public Schools (ACPS) will be celebrating the school division’s poetry contest winners in May 2025. The contest began more than 15 years ago and has continued as an annual tradition, serving as a means to celebrate and honor our talented student writers within the school division. Students in grades three to 12 submitted original poems to school-based poetry liaisons. Each school selects a winning poet from each grade level and for the overall school.

The overall school winner and division grade level winners are invited to a divisionwide ceremony on May 7, 2025, at 6 p.m. in the Alexandria City High School (ACHS) King St. auditorium, where we will celebrate their creative works and hear from special guests. The winning poems will be compiled into a divisionwide anthology, printed and provided to the Poetry Ceremony attendees and schools.

The ACPS Poetry Contest is a divisionwide initiative organized by the Department of Teaching, Learning and Leadership. Questions may also be directed to K-12 Literacy Coordinator and Secondary Literacy Specialist Kimberly Schell at kimberly.schell@acps.k12.va.us or Elementary Literacy Instructional Specialist Dr. Carolyn Wooster carolyn.wooster@acps.k12.va.us.
