Alexandria City High School PTSA Teacher Appreciation Donation
Teachers were celebrated with a coffee-style toast as the Alexandria City High School (ACHS) Parent-Teacher-Student Association (PTSA) hosted two continental breakfasts during Teacher Appreciation Week (May 5-9). All 500+ teachers and staff were celebrated at the school’s four campuses. The teachers also received a special surprise with a gift of 42 cases of Ready-to-Drink Happy Coffee, 16 cases of Keurig-compatible Happy Coffee pods, Keurig machines and Happy Coffee mugs for the school from the National PTA. Happy Coffee was co-founded by Academy award-winning actor Robert Downey Jr., who has partnered with the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) to address mental health issues that many teens face. May also happens to be Mental Health Awareness Month.
In receiving the "happy" donation, PTSA President Missy Estabrook was joined by School Board Chair Dr. Michelle Rief, Superintendent Dr. Melanie Kay-Wyatt, Chief of School & Community Relations Julia Burgos, APR, ACHS Executive Principal Alexander Duncan III and other administrators and teachers. The National Parent Teacher Association (PTA) was represented by Senior Manager of Membership and Field Service Kirthana Krishnathasan, Suzan Yungner and Scott Meeks. NAMI was represented by Chief Innovation Officer Darcy Gruttadaro, Senior Coordinator Emily Oak and Board of Directors Chair Mary Collins. Virginia PTA President Jenna Alexander was also in attendance.
