Amazon and Reading Is Fundamental of NOVA Give Books to All ACPS PreK-2 Students for Winter Break

Reading Is Fundamental of Northern Virginia (RIF of NOVA), through its partnership with Amazon, donated two books to every Pre-K-2 Alexandria City Public Schools (ACPS) student. Deliveries were made in early December to our schools, much to our students' delight.

“We are truly grateful to Reading is Fundamental of Northern Virginia, through its partnership with Amazon, for their support in helping ACPS improve early literacy outcomes for our youngest learners. Their donation of two new books for every pre-K-2 student in ACPS will not only help them build their ‘at home’ library, but will also become portals to imagination, knowledge and endless possibilities,” said Chief Academic Officer Dr. Pierrette Finney.

RIF of NOVA have worked closely with ACPS librarians over the years to better understand the interests and reading levels of ACPS students. Amazon volunteers placed a sticker on the inside of each book selected by RIF of NOVA where students can write their names and also offered encouraging notes to the students on bookmarks.

Through RIF’s national expansion of its Amazon partnership in 2021, RIF engages employees across the country to deliver books to children in more than 200 Title I schools. The partnership continues to grow through empowering employee volunteers to spread the joy of reading by supporting their local schools nationwide.

RIF is the nation’s leading children’s literacy nonprofit. It was founded in 1966 by a former school teacher who had the idea to get free books into the hands of Washington, D.C., students and on the insight that inspiring the joy of reading is essential to helping children become skilled readers. RIF of NOVA traces its beginnings back to 1972.
