Changes to the 2024-25 School Year Calendar

The Alexandria City School Board has voted to make Friday, February 28, 2025, a regular school day for all ACPS schools, except for Samuel W. Tucker Elementary School, which operates on a modified school year calendar. Due to its modified calendar, Samuel W. Tucker will instead hold a regular school day on Friday, March 21, 2025. This adjustment allows ACPS to maintain continuity of instruction due to recent inclement weather closures and helps prevent the need to extend the school year.

February 28 and March 21 were originally designated as a Parent-Teacher Conference Day. While the schedule has changed, families are still encouraged to contact their child’s teacher or school counselor with any questions or concerns about academic progress. Additionally, families can access grades, performance updates and attendance information anytime through PowerSchool.

This adjustment is also part of our efforts to accommodate the additional professional learning days required by the Virginia Literacy Act. Since most of this professional learning has been completed ahead of schedule, we feel confident in using this date as a regular instructional day to ensure continuity in student learning.
