Weekly sessions at different library locations.

Improve your English Speaking Skills! The Alexandria Library invites all interested to join a conversation group to practice English and gain confidence. No registration is needed.

ALIVE! is a local not-for-profit organization dedicated to providing emergency and basic needs support to children, families and individuals living in poverty and with hunger in the City of Alexandria. ALIVE! will distribute bags of food to Alexandria City residents. No ID is required. Make sure to check out the ALIVE website for more information about the Food Hubs.

Meaningful Conversations about racism and what to do about it. Join Alexandria community members for the resumption of the “Meaningful Conversations about Racism – and What To Do About It” conversations. Explore and celebrate the diversity of cultures and peoples in our area, address the attitudes and behaviors that still divide us and seek remedies grounded in the recognition that we are one interconnected, interdependent human family.

George Washington Middle School Elective Fair and Curriculum Night

Families of students currently in grades 5-7 are invited to join our middle school staff to gain insight into the curriculum covered in grade-level content classes and preview electives.

Celebrate the Lunar New Year with the Alexandria City Library

Charles E. Beatley Jr. Central Library  (5005 Duke Street)

Join the Charles E. Beatley Library for a day of fun and relaxation as we welcome the Lunar New Year. Start your morning with calming Tai Chi or get creative with themed crafts! Programs are tailored for ages 0-5 in the morning (10:15-11:15 a.m.) and ages 10-17 in the afternoon (3:30-4:30 p.m.). 

Cultural Observance Days

On weekdays, these are regular school days. However, these days should not host assessments, sporting events and other school-sponsored special activities. Any missed assignments due to student absences on these days can be made up without penalty.

Upcoming School Board Meetings

The regularly scheduled School Board meeting will take place twice in January. School Board meetings are held in person in the School Board Meeting Room at 1340 Braddock Place unless otherwise noted. Members of the public may attend in person or via Zoom. Please visit the School Board webpage for any updates to the meeting schedule.
