ESL II - Conversation Club for Intermediate ESL Speakers

Mondays and Wednesdays in November (Nov. 2, 7, 9, 14,16, 21, 23, 28), 5:30 - 6:30 p.m.

Charles E. Beatley Jr. Central Library (5005 Duke St.). The Alexandria Library builds community by providing opportunities to learn, explore, create and connect. Its ESL II Conversation Club is a space for intermediate speakers to practice English and build confidence. No registration is required.

Elementary & PreK-8 Conferences

Thurs., Nov. 3 and Fri., Nov. 4

Parent-teacher conferences are an important opportunity for families and teachers to discuss students’ social, emotional and academic learning progress. Each school will communicate with their students, staff and families regarding the schedule for conferences. (Please note: this does not include Samuel W. Tucker Elementary School families, whose conferences were held in October.)

Día de los Muertos Celebration

Join Alexandria Library for Día de los Muertos crafts or bring a photo or offering for your loved one for our community altar. The altar and activities table will be set up near the reference desk. Items for the altar will be accepted from Oct. 28 - Nov. 3, as space permits.

Native American Cultural Beading Workshops

Sat., Nov. 5, 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.

Presented by Running Strong American Indian Youth and funded in part by the City of Alexandria’s Office of the Art, these workshops offer the community an opportunity to practice crafting skills and learn about Native American beadwork and culture.

ALIVE! Pop-Up Food Distribution

ALIVE! is a local not-for-profit organization dedicated to providing emergency and basic needs support to children, families and individuals living in poverty and with hunger in the City of Alexandria. ALIVE! will distribute bags of food to Alexandria City residents. No ID is required.

Alexandria West Community Planning Process Kick-Off Meeting

Tues., Nov. 15, 7 p.m.
Virtual (Zoom)

Community members, businesses and organizations are invited to attend a virtual kick-off meeting launching the City’s 18-month Alexandria West planning process. Help create a vision for the area’s long-term future and explore topics such as housing affordability, equity, culture, land use, mobility, pedestrian and cyclist safety and accessibility, and connecting existing and future open spaces. Interpretation services will be provided in Spanish, Amharic and Arabic.

The LINKS, Inc. - Arlington Chapter S.T.E.(A).M. Pathways to A Lifetime of Unlimited Success (P.L.U.S.) Seminars

Alexandria and Arlington middle school and high school students are invited to register for the STEAM PLUS seminars, which will feature hands-on activities and dynamic guest speakers who will introduce participants to numerous S.T.E.A.M. professions where young women and men of color are underrepresented. The Links, Inc. is one of the nation’s oldest and largest volunteer service organizations of professional women of African descent.
