Learn about calendar reminders and upcoming community events for September. Find out when the Alexandria City Public Schools (ACPS) Community Outreach team will be in your neighborhood!
 

Labor Day Holiday

Fri. Sept. 1 - Mon., Sep. 4

All ACPS schools will be closed for the Labor Day holiday.

ACHS Titans vs. Forest Park High School

Fri., Sept. 8, at 7 p.m.

Alexandria City High School (3330 King Street)

The ACHS Titans are excited to host their second home football game of the season. The cost is $5 for students and $7 for general admission. For more information, visit https://actitans.org/.

Back-to-School Night

Various dates and times (see below)

Families are invited to Back-to-School Night events every year to meet the teachers and staff at each school, learn about their students’ classes and engage in discussions about curriculum. Each school will communicate with their students, staff and families regarding the schedule for Back-to-School Night. Below is the schedule for these events.

Tues., Sept. 12: Early Childhood Center.
Wed., Sept. 13: Francis Hammond Middle School, Jefferson-Houston PreK-8 IB School, Charles Barrett Elementary School, Cora Kelly School for Math, Science and Technology, Douglas MacArthur Elementary School, George Mason Elementary School, Lyles-Crouch Traditional Academy, Mount Vernon Community School and Naomi L. Brooks Elementary School.
Thurs., Sept. 14: George Washington Middle School, Patrick Henry K-8 School, Ferdinand T. Day Elementary School, James K. Polk Elementary School, John Adams Elementary School and William Ramsay Elementary School.
Tues., Sept. 19: Alexandria City High School (ACHS) Minnie Howard Campus, Satellite Campus and Chance for Change Campus.
Wed., Sept. 20: ACHS King Street Campus.

Concerned Citizens Network of Alexandria Virtual Community Forum

Concerned Citizens Network of Alexandria is a nonprofit organization committed to equity in education, health and social justice whose community forums bring stakeholders together to enhance partnerships in the community. This month, Dr. Melanie Kay-Wyatt (Alexandria City Public Schools), Kate Garvey (Department of Community & Human Services) and Helen McIlvaine (Office of Housing) will discuss critical issues around education, services and housing.
 

ALIVE! Pop-Up Food Distributions

ALIVE! is a local not-for-profit organization dedicated to providing emergency and basic needs support to children, families, and individuals living in poverty and with hunger in the City of Alexandria. ALIVE! will distribute bags of food to Alexandria City residents. No ID is required. Make sure to check out the ALIVE website for more information about the Food Hubs.

A Trend to Get Behind: Celebrating 15 Years of Prevention

All ACPS schools will be closed for the Yom Kippur holiday. ACPS offices will remain open.

Middle School & High School Conferences

Thurs. Sept. 28-Fri. Sept. 29

Parent-teacher conferences are an important opportunity for families and teachers to discuss students’ social, emotional and academic learning progress. There will be no school for students at ACHS (all campuses), Francis C. Hammond Middle School and George Washington Middle School. Each school will communicate with their students, staff and families regarding the schedule for conferences.

Hispanic Heritage Fiesta - Ven y celebra con nosotros

Sat., Sept. 30: 1-3 p.m.

Charles E. Beatley Jr. Central Library (5005 Duke Street)

Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month with The Alexandria Library and enjoy live music, crafts and food! The fiesta will take place outside in Beatley Central Library's beautiful Reading Garden. All ages.
