DonorsChoose Connects Teachers with Community Support
The non-profit organization DonorsChoose connects teachers with donors in the community who want to provide specific materials for daily lesson needs and support classroom projects to enhance student learning. DonorsChoose invited Alexandria City Public Schools (ACPS) teachers to create their own classroom wish lists, with all supplies designed to benefit student learning in the 2023-24 school year.
“The very start of the school year is typically when we see an increase in donations specifically for DonorsChoose,” ACPS Manager of Grants and Partnerships Dr. Gregory Tardieu said. “The Alexandria community has been so generous in supporting our students, teachers and schools.”
There are currently 61 active requests from ACPS teachers awaiting community support. To date, DonorsChoose has helped fund 1,910 projects at ACPS.
DonorsChoose is a teacher-founded organization that brings together teachers and supporters across the U.S., and students are the beneficiaries of this community support. Each classroom request for funding is created by a classroom teacher and reviewed by the DonorsChoose team.
Some fully funded ACPS projects in previous years include backpacks, activity workbooks and posters, hands-on educational games, up-to-date maps and globes and more. Every teacher is welcome to create their own classroom wish list to support students in grades PreK-12. Community members can find the 2023-24 ACPS classroom wish lists online at DonorsChoose.
