Snapshots from the Superintendent’s School Travels
Visiting Alexandria City Public Schools (ACPS) and events students and staff participated in over the past few weeks, Superintendent Dr. Melanie Kay-Wyatt took great pride in seeing firsthand the accomplishments of our students and staff. Those moments are captured in this month’s “Snapshots from the Superintendent’s School Travels.”
Feb. 5, 2025 – A visit to John Adams Elementary School provided the opportunity to enjoy some quality time with rising Titans as they participated in fun learning activities.
Feb. 6, 2025 – The superintendent was proud to see Charles Barrett Elementary School in the spotlight as it hosted educators from around the country. They were there to experience the Kennedy Center’s Changing Education Through Arts (CETA) program in action. The group of educators toured the school, observed classrooms, and had an engaging panel discussion about the CETA program and how it benefits students.
Feb. 9, 2025 – Dr. Kay-Wyatt joined students and families at Naomi L. Brooks Elementary School’s “Mission Possible” 2025 Art Exhibition in support of protecting freedom, justice and democracy in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. The students’ artwork was very special.
Feb. 19, 2025 – As Supe’s Spotlight was filmed, the superintendent was joined by James K. Polk Elementary School (Polk Elementary) students who assisted in highlighting the ACPS Heart Work campaign. The students did a great job helping to promote this campaign.
Feb. 19, 2025 – While visiting James K. Polk Elementary School, as well as Charles Barrett Elementary School, Dr. Kay-Wyatt was able to spend quality time, once again, with rising Titans and participate in their Polk Glo event where she was joined by PTA leadership.
- In a Charles Barrett art class, students learned about the color wheel and then put their knowledge to work as the superintendent and students joined in picture painting activities, creating springtime images like tulips. Learning and fun were in abundance.
