Jan. 30, 2023, School Board Language Advisory Committee Interest Meeting

Jan. 30, 2023, School Board Language Advisory Committee Interest Meeting

The Alexandria City School Board is launching Spanish-, Amharic- and Arabic-speaking Advisory Committees that will help provide a voice to specific language groups within Alexandria City Public Schools (ACPS). An initial virtual meeting for interested ACPS community members, including parents/guardians, will be held via Zoom at 6 p.m. on Mon., Jan. 30, 2023. School Board members will facilitate this meeting, and the participation of any ACPS community member who speaks one of these three languages is welcome. No registration is required to join the virtual meeting by Zoom, which will include language interpretation (meeting ID: 998 0849 3243; passcode: 241187).

Committee members will have the opportunity throughout the school year to share feedback regarding focused, relevant topics for those communities in alignment with family engagement best practices. They will help advise the school division on the needs of our students and families who speak Spanish, Amharic and Arabic and/or have an English Learner (EL) designation. They will also provide recommendations regarding the education of these student groups, while assisting in educating the community about ACPS support for students and families who speak these languages. Meetings will be held in native languages and with English interpretation.

More details will be shared about the committees at the Jan. 30, 2023, virtual meeting. Online application forms to join these School Board Language Advisory Committees are available in English, Spanish, Amharic or Arabic.
