Kindergarten and New Student Registration Information

Alexandria City Public Schools’ (ACPS) kindergarten registration process for the 2025-26 school year gets underway for all ACPS elementary schools on April 23, 2025. We encourage families to mark this date on their calendars and register early as it helps to ensure the school division has the teachers, staff and resources needed to support every student.

Starting on April 23, 2025, families will be able to use the new student registration webpage to check that their child meets the age requirements and to learn about the required documents for registration in the upcoming school year. Kindergarten and elementary school open houses will be held in April and May to provide families with the opportunity to learn more about their child’s school. Visit the website for your child’s assigned school for additional details, including information about kindergarten registration, which is available on the ACPS website.

Families should use the online student registration form for the 2025-26 school year, which will be available starting April 23, 2025. Support is available in the division's top five languages in order to assist families throughout the registration process. If a family has any issues or questions about how to register their child, they should call their boundary school’s registrar for assistance. 

Once the family has completed the online registration form, the next step is to call the school or contact the school registrar to schedule a time to visit and present all the necessary documents for in-person confirmation and completion of the registration process. 

Families registering kindergarten students for the 2025-26 school year should also save the date for the “Step Up to Kindergarten” event. This introduction to the school experience helps incoming kindergarten students become familiar with their schools, classrooms and teachers in advance of the beginning of the academic year so they can feel more comfortable on the first day of school. This half-day orientation session is scheduled for the Friday before the first day of school. At Samuel W. Tucker Elementary School, “Step Up to Kindergarten” is set for July 18, 2025, and on Aug. 15, 2025, for all other ACPS schools.
