Kindergarten and New Student Registration Information

Alexandria City Public Schools (ACPS) kindergarten registration process gets underway for the 2025-26 school year on April 23, 2025, for all division elementary schools. We encourage  families to register early as it helps to ensure the school division has the teachers, staff and resources needed to support every student.

Starting on April 23, 2025, families will be able to use the new student registration webpage to check that their child meets the age requirements and to learn about the required documents for registration in the upcoming school year. Kindergarten and elementary school open houses will be held in April and May to provide families with the opportunity to learn more about their child’s school. Visit the website for your school for additional details, including information about kindergarten registration, which is available on the ACPS website.

Families should use the online student registration form for the 2025-26 school year, which will be available starting April 23, 2025. Support is available in the top five languages spoken in order to assist families throughout the registration process. If a family has any issues or questions about how to register their child, they should call their boundary school’s registrar for assistance. 

Once the family has completed the online registration form, the next step is to call the school or contact the school registrar to schedule a time to visit and present all the necessary documents for in-person confirmation in order to complete the registration process. 

Families registering kindergarten students for the 2025-26 school year should save the date for “Step Up to Kindergarten.” This introduction to the school experience helps incoming kindergarten students become familiar with their schools, classrooms and teachers in advance of the beginning of the academic year, so they can feel more comfortable on the first day of school. This half-day orientation session is scheduled for the Friday before the first day of school. At Samuel W. Tucker Elementary School, “Step Up to Kindergarten” is set for July 18, 2025 and Aug. 15, 2025 for all other ACPS schools.
