Launch of #MeetTheACPSPartners Debuts

Alexandria City Public Schools (ACPS) is fortunate to count dozens of dedicated businesses, community organizations and institutions of higher education as partners working with us each day to inspire students and address barriers to learning.

ACPS is launching #MeetTheACPSPartners this month to proudly thank our partner organizations. Through these question and answer style articles, ACPS also wants our school community to get to know who our partners are and the positive impact they have on our schools. Let us meet the partners:

Sarah Jennings – program manager

Schools served – ACPS/division-wide

What’s your mission statement? How do you work with ACPS students, families or staff?

Earth Force works with educators, students, partners and the school division as a whole to support Environmental Action Civics - a process for student-led environmental action. Earth Force funds student action projects through Caring for Our Watersheds.

How long has your organization been (officially/unofficially) partnering with ACPS?

Earth Force has partnered with ACPS for over 10 years.

If you could describe the impact of your work with ACPS in three words or less, what would they be and why?

Environmental Action Civics! The impact of Earth Force changes the hearts and minds of school leadership to orient them toward student-led democratic processes, youth-adult partnerships and centers them as experts in their own communities - being part of the environmental decision- making spaces at their school alongside adults.

What is a recent bit of good news about your organization or a feel-good story that you can share about your work?

Earth Force has a podcast, which is really fun. Give it a listen on our website or find us on Spotify or Apple Podcasts. https://earthforce.org/podcast/

What is one thing most people might not know about your organization's work?

Earth Force has low-cost water monitoring kits and the organization would love to get one in your hands - sign up here https://lamotte.com/earth-forcer-standard-water-monitoring-kit-5848

How can community members get involved and support your organization's collaborative efforts with ACPS?

Earth Force has a community of practice we would love for community members to join. You can also reach out to review student action proposals or be an ambassador of Caring for Our Watersheds. https://eacalliance.mn.co/share/vh73I7OgTfMa6QPv?utm_source=manual
