March 2025 Recognitions and Cultural Observances
In March, Alexandria City Public Schools (ACPS) celebrates various recognitions and cultural observances that include Women’s History Month, National Nutrition Month, Music in Our Schools Month and Youth Art Month, to name a few. Women’s History Month: Proclaimed by Congress and many governors and legislatures, this is a month to celebrate the rich and inspiring heritage of women's contributions to the United States. In 2025, the Women's History Month theme is “Moving Forward Together! Women Educating & Inspiring Generations,” chosen by the National Women's History Alliance. National Nutrition Month: To promote the importance of healthy eating and physical activity. Sponsored by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. The 2025 theme is “Food Connects Us!”

National School Social Work Week (March 2-8, 2025): A week to honor school social workers and highlight the important work that they do to meet students' social, emotional, physical and environmental needs. National School Breakfast Week (March 3-7, 2025): Celebrates the importance of a nutritious school breakfast in fueling students for success, sponsored by the School Nutrition Association. “Clue in to School Breakfast” is the detective-inspired theme for 2025. International Women’s Day (March 8, 2025): Established in the early 1900s as a day to honor working women. The 2025 theme is "Accelerate Action," which calls for taking steps to address gender inequality and systemic barriers that women face. Visit internationalwomensday.com/ #BreakTheBias
Pi Day (March 14, 2025): The day celebrating the mathematical constant π, which represents the ratio of a circle's circumference to its diameter. ams.org/publicoutreach/pi-day
ACPS Essential Workers Week (March 17-21, 2025): ACPS honors all essential workers, which includes healthcare staff, law enforcement, firefighters, bus drivers and monitors, snow plow drivers, nutrition staff, building engineers, custodians, security personnel, teachers, instructional assistants, counselors, support staff and more.
First Day of Spring (March 20, 2025): Spring Equinox, Northern Hemisphere
International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination (March 21, 2025): Commemorated annually by the United Nations, this day marks the anniversary of a deadly 1960 protest against apartheid in South Africa and reminds us of the importance of eliminating all forms of racial discrimination.
