Nefertiti Hunter-Holbeck Named Principal of William Ramsay Elementary School
Nefertiti Hunter-Holbeck takes on the role of principal at William Ramsay Elementary School (William Ramsay), effective July 1, 2025, after serving as its acting principal.
“The appointment of Nefertiti Hunter-Holbeck as principal of William Ramsay brings a wonderful sense of continuity to the Ramsay community and builds upon her already significant contributions as assistant principal. Her long-standing dedication, visible presence and willingness to collaboratively engage in difficult conversations and choices for the benefit of our students assure us that William Ramsay will continue to thrive under her leadership,” said Executive Director of School Leadership for Alexandria City Public Schools (ACPS) Michael Routhouska.
Hunter-Holbeck served as assistant principal at William Ramsay since 2012 and takes great pride in relationship building, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and collaboration. She has successfully led initiatives that improved student achievement, enhanced family engagement and staff development.
She was the summer school principal at James K. Polk Elementary School in 2023 and at Cora Kelly School for Math, Science and Technology in 2021. Hunter-Holbeck also served as an elementary school teacher for more than 10 years at William Ramsay and in Charlotte, North Carolina.
Hunter-Holbeck earned a Bachelor of Science in elementary education and a Bachelor of Arts in political science from the College of Charleston in South Carolina. She received a Master of Education degree from Winthrop University in South Carolina. Hunter-Holbeck earned a graduate certificate for academically or intellectually gifted from the University of Virginia. She also holds an endorsement in administration and supervision PreK-12 certificate in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Hunter-Holbeck is currently a doctoral student in K-12 Educational Leadership at Frostburg State University in Maryland.
