Next Week (March 12-19, 2023): Join Us in Saluting our Essential Workers

Celebrating our second annual Alexandria City Essential Workers Appreciation Week is our way of saying thank you to our teachers, healthcare professionals, firefighters, police officers, bus drivers, custodians and others who give their all in supporting our community every day.

On Tues., March 14, 2023, Patrick Henry K-8 School (Patrick Henry) and its principal Dr. Ingrid Bynum will host a special Essential Workers Appreciation Week event that will include our community partners from the offices of the sheriff, police, firefighters and Inova healthcare system. Interim Superintendent Dr. Melanie Kay-Wyatt, members of the Alexandria City School Board and City Council, as well as representatives from the Alexandria Parent Teacher Association Council (PTAC), will be in attendance. Also, Principal Bynum has invited essential workers directly supporting Patrick Henry to address the students gathered and has included Patrick Henry parents/guardians who are also essential workers for this recognition.

As part of the celebration, younger students will get the opportunity to tour the vehicles used by essential workers that include fire trucks, sheriff vehicles and school buses. Middle school students will be able to participate in a career panel with essential workers to learn more about those career options.
