Recording Available: ACPS and PTAC Healthy Choices Forum
The Alexandria community came together on Wed., Sept. 25, 2024, at a forum, jointly sponsored by Alexandria City Public Schools (ACPS), the Alexandria Parent Teacher Association Council (PTAC) and the Alexandria City High School Parent and Teacher Association (ACHS PTA), to discuss Supporting Healthy Choices in Teenagers at Alexandria City High School (ACHS). The forum featured a panel discussion with ACPS staff alongside city and community leaders. Breakout sessions provided an opportunity for further exploration of substance abuse prevention and awareness, Narcan training and mental health and suicide prevention. If you were unable to attend the forum, view this recording for more information.
In addressing the forum, Superintendent Dr. Melanie Kay-Wyatt said, “It is essential for us to focus on our students’ social, emotional and academic learning to strengthen competencies in social awareness, relationship skills, responsible decision-making, self-management and self-awareness.”
ACPS’ community partners including PTAC, ACHS PTSA, the Alexandria Health Department and the Teen Wellness Center, Hazel Health, the Substance Abuse Prevention Coalition of Alexandria (SAPCA) and Moms Demand Action/Be SMART were on site the day of the forum to provide resources for ACPS’ families.
