Register for ACPS Mentoring Event “Your Future Today” Scheduled for Feb. 24, 2024
On Sat., Feb. 24, 2024, Alexandria City Public Schools (ACPS) will host a mentoring event, “Your Future Today,” geared toward Black/African American males in grades 6-12. In keeping with the “Equity for All'' focus of the ACPS Strategic Plan, this event will be centered on recognizing and mentoring to the unique needs of Black male youth. Our data reveal that this group of students is overrepresented in disciplinary outcomes, detainments/arrests and academic disparities. By developing strong mentor relationships, some of the challenges that Black male youth face can be mitigated, and the strength of the communities, families and cultures can be drawn upon to bolster their potential for success.
The “Your Future Today” event follows a similar event that was held at Francis C. Hammond Middle School in April 2023, and will serve as the launching point for a year-long mentoring program and other initiatives before the end of the school year. The event on Feb. 24, 2024, will be held at the Alexandria City High School King Street campus from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
This event is free of charge. To register, fill out the online form. More details will be provided to students and families via multiple communications channels.
