Join the Alexandria Parent Teacher Association Council (PTAC), Alexandria City High School Parent Teacher and Student Association (ACHS PTSA) and Alexandria City Public Schools (ACPS) at a forum to discuss supporting healthy choices for teenagers on Wed., Sept. 25, 2024, from 6-8 p.m. at the Alexandria City High School - King Street Campus.

Families will be able to ask questions such as:

  • What conversations should I be having with my teen to encourage good choices?
  • What are the signs of substance abuse in teens?
  • What are the consequences for families when alcohol and drugs are consumed by teens in their house?

The forum will feature a panel discussion with ACPS staff alongside city and community partners, including the City of Alexandria Department of Human and Community Services (DCHS), Substance Abuse Prevention Coalition of Alexandria (SAPCA), Stop Child Abuse Now of Northern Virginia (SCAN) and the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA).

The panel will be followed by breakout sessions that provide an opportunity for further exploration of Narcan training, mental health and suicide prevention and secure gun storage.

Families are invited to “Meet the SROs” as Alexandria Police Department and multiple community partners host resource tables during the event. Confirmed organizations include: PTAC, ACHS PTSA, Alexandria Health Department, Alexandria Sheriff’s Office, Teen Wellness Center, Hazel Health, SAPCA, Moms Demand Action/Be SMART and Move 2 Learn.

Interpretation will be provided in Amharic, Arabic, Dari and Spanish. Pizza will be served until 5:45 p.m. At this time, childcare for the event is currently at capacity. ACPS families can register to attend the forum at www.acps.cc/healthychoices.
