Road to Redistricting: Final School Boundary Redistricting Decision Made by School Board
At the School Board Meeting on June 12, 2025, the Alexandria City School Board approved Elementary School Triangle Map Plan 3 and Middle School Option E as the final boundary changes to go into effect for the start of the 2026–27 school year.
Elementary School – Triangle Map Plan 3
- Prioritizes greater demographic balance across schools.
- Increases use of the expanded George Mason Elementary School.
- Requires a phased implementation due to swing space capacity.
Middle School – Option E
- Redraws the Jefferson-Houston PreK–8 IB School attendance area for grades 6–8.
- Moves toward optimal building utilization and more balanced middle school enrollment.
Next Phase of the Process
Though we have reached the end of one road in the School Boundary Redistricting Process, the journey continues as we begin preparing for the implementation process.
- The School Board also voted to approve deferrals, meaning there is a delay of a student's reassignment to a different school due to school boundary redistricting
- Personalized notifications to families impacted by boundary changes will begin in the coming months.
Even though The Express newsletter is on summer break until August 15, 2025, important updates will continue to be shared over the summer to ensure our community stays informed.
We thank all students, families, staff and community members for your ongoing engagement throughout this process. Stay tuned for more as we work together to ensure a smooth transition for the start of the 2026–27 school year.
