As part of the ongoing School Boundary Redistricting Process, two new proposed boundary maps—the Red and Indigo plans—are now available for the community to view and provide feedback on.
New Proposed Boundary Maps
Indigo Map
- Balances utilization between George Washington and Francis C Hammond Middle Schools.
- Moves study areas to closer schools.
Red Map
- Provides an alternative solution to the utilization issues at Samuel W. Tucker, James K. Polk and Patrick Henry Elementary Schools.
- Increases the numbers of communities that need transportation.
- Hinders the school division’s efforts to create neighborhood schools.
- Brings more balance to utilization to the East End.
- Lowers the projected utilization of Naomi L Brooks Elementary School.
Recent School Boundary Redistricting Meetings
This week, three important meetings took place to continue advancing the process:
- The Redistricting Advisory Committee Meeting
- The Redistricting Steering Committee Meeting
- The School Board Work Session on Redistricting Policies
We encourage all families and community members to view the recordings and presentations from these meetings if you were unable to watch them live.
Second Redistricting Hybrid Community Meeting
Looking ahead, we invite you to join us for the second Redistricting Hybrid Community Meeting on Tues., April 22, 2025, from 6–8 p.m. at Alexandria City High School – King Street Campus. The meeting will also be available virtually for those who prefer to participate from home. Please be sure to register in advance if you plan to attend in person or online.
School Boundary Redistricting Decision
The final School Board vote on the proposed school boundary changes is scheduled for June 12, 2025. The new boundaries will go into effect at the start of the 2026–27 school year.
