At its meeting on Jan. 19, 2023, the School Board held a public hearing on the FY 2024 Combined Funds budget.
The School Board also enjoyed a visit from James K. Polk Elementary School staff and students and a performance from the Alexandria City High School choir. Additionally, the board congratulated the winners of the second quarter ACPS Vision, Integrity and Passion (VIP) employee recognition awards.
At this meeting, the School Board shared a new video that featured School Board Chair Meagan Alderton discussing our instructional excellence strategic goal that ensures all students have access to and engagement with high-quality instruction. This video is the latest in a series of School Board vignettes that provides staff, families, students and community members with an inside glimpse of how the School Board works with the division to bring the mission, vision and goals of the strategic plan to life. Previous videos in this series include:
- The Dec. 15, 2022, video featuring School Board Member Tammy Ignacio, who explains social, emotional and academic learning (SEAL) recovery, one of ACPS’ 2022-23 Areas of Focus.
- The Nov. 10, 2022, video featuring School Board Member Kelly Carmichael Booz, who discusses the ACPS 2025: Equity for All Strategic Plan’s strategic goal of systemic alignment.
- The Oct. 20, 2022, video featuring School Board Member Abdel-Rahman Elnoubi, who offers a deep dive into the budget process.
- The Sept. 22, 2022, video featuring School Board Chair Meagan L. Alderton, who shares an overview of the vision, mission and core values of the strategic plan and how the Equity for All 2025 Strategic Plan is transformational, with racial equity at its heart.
