Share Your Feedback: Weapons Screening Equipment Survey

A brief community engagement survey on the potential use of weapons screening equipment in Alexandria City Public Schools (ACPS) is now open through March 8, 2023. Students, staff, families and community members are invited to share their feedback. Please take a few minutes to share your input through our brief survey today. The survey is available in English, Spanish, Dari, Amharic and Arabic.

“The use of weapons screening equipment within our schools will support in the reduction of weapons entering our school facilities,” said Chief of Facilities and Operations Dr. Alicia Hart. The reduction of weapons entering our schools helps ensure safe learning environments for students, staff and visitors.

Current versions of this screening system include the use of photography to identify potential weapons threats on a person. The system allows for high thru-put, as there is no need to remove items from bags and individuals can walk through at a normal pace. At its Feb. 2, 2023, meeting, the School Board gave its approval to proceed with a community engagement survey concerning the use of this technology in division schools. The next step would be a pilot program at the ACHS-King Street, ACHS-Minnie Howard, George Washington Middle School and Francis C. Hammond Middle School campuses.
