Upcoming School Conferences and Community Resources Information

Upcoming School Conferences and Community Resources Information

Alexandria City Public Schools (ACPS) would like to share a few important reminders with families regarding the schedule for the week of Sept. 30, 2024, for our schools operating on the traditional academic calendar (all schools except Samuel W. Tucker Elementary School).

There will be no school for students Oct. 2-4, 2024:

  • Oct. 2, 2024, is a Professional Learning Day.

  • Oct. 3, 2024, is Rosh Hashanah.

  • Oct. 4, 2024, is a school conference day for elementary, K-8, middle school and high school students.

For Samuel W. Tucker Elementary School students, using the modified academic calendar, there is no school on Oct. 2 and Oct. 3, 2024.

School Conference Scheduling

The two full days of conferences in the fall and one full day in the winter for the 2024-25 school year is a shift from what ACPS has offered previously. By scheduling conferences three times each calendar year, families and teachers have the opportunity to discuss students’ social, emotional and academic progress. Furthermore, to meet the needs of families with multiple children, those needing time off from work or those dependent on older siblings for childcare, all traditional calendar elementary, K-8, middle and high schools will have the same conference days this year.

Fall school conferences will be held on Fri., Oct. 4, 2024, and Mon., Nov. 4, 2024. By scheduling the two fall conference dates a month apart, ACPS can prioritize students who most need support before the end of the first quarter.

School staff will prioritize students and families for the first day of conferences with the following criteria:

  • Academic Tier 3 and Tier 2

  • VALLSS ID’d & Dibels “red zone” (elementary)

  • Students with Ds or Fs (middle and high schools)

  • Attendance challenges

  • Behavior challenges

  • Students with disabilities or in the multi tiered systems of support (MTSS) process

  • Parent requests for a conference

Students and families not prioritized for Oct. 4, 2024, will be scheduled for the Nov. 4, 2024, conference date.

Families that conference with teachers in October who are interested in a follow-up meeting should schedule outside of the Nov. 4, 2024, conference date, as that date is reserved for families who have yet to conference with their child’s teacher.

Community Resources

As this schedule makes for several days off in a row for most of our schools, resources our families can access include the ALIVE! food program in Alexandria.
