Update in ACPS Superintendent Search
In early December, the Alexandria City School Board shared information about the search process and timeline for a permanent superintendent for Alexandria City Public Schools (ACPS). The Board appreciates everyone who took the time to share their input in the online survey available in December 2022 and in January 2023, as well as the small stakeholder group discussions facilitated by the consultant in this process, McPherson & Jacobson, L.L.C Executive Recruitment and Development. As this process continues according to the timeline provided earlier in the school year, the Board has shared an update on the status of this search.
The consultant has provided the School Board with a report they prepared on the stakeholder feedback they have gathered from the ACPS community. It is a summary of student, staff and family input about the assets and challenges in our school division and the characteristics needed in a permanent superintendent. The Board appreciates the thoughtful comments and ideas, which they are reviewing in preparation for assessing applications and interviewing prospective candidates. This report is now available online, along with a timeline and other information, on the superintendent search webpage.
The closing date for the application process is Feb. 9, 2023, and the interview process will take place in March. The Board expects to make an announcement in April 2023 and the permanent superintendent will begin in this position at ACPS on July 1, 2023.
The Alexandria City School Board is committed to guiding our school division with an urgent focus on continuous improvement and sustainable success. Selecting a permanent superintendent to lead Alexandria City Public Schools (ACPS) in the years ahead is one of the Board’s most important functions and this work is of the highest priority. The Board is working hard to ensure that our collective community has the right person to guide ACPS successfully into the future and is excited to move forward with this vital work. Updates will continue to be provided to the ACPS community about this search.
