VSBA Awards ACHS Minnie Howard Campus with Silver Design Award

VSBA Awards ACHS Minnie Howard Campus with Silver Design Award

Alexandria City High School’s (ACHS) new Minnie Howard Campus building was honored with the Silver Design Award at the 2024 Virginia School Boards Association (VSBA) convention in Williamsburg, Virginia. The global architecture firm Perkins Eastman designed the ACHS Minnie Howard building, which provides a sustainable, high-performance learning environment with enhanced daylight, thermal comfort, acoustics and indoor air quality. In keeping with Alexandria’s Green Building policy, the Minnie Howard building is designed to target net zero energy.

“We are thrilled to have been recognized as one of the top three winners for this year’s VSBA Exhibition of School Architecture,” Alexandria City Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Melanie Kay-Wyatt said.

The VSBA Exhibition of School Architecture, sponsored by First Citizens Bank, is held annually in conjunction with the VSBA Annual Convention. The award was presented on Wed., Nov. 20, 2024, during the organization’s 2024 annual convention in Williamsburg, Virginia. The goal of the exhibition is to raise awareness among School Board members of the relationship between good design and effective teaching and learning.
