ACPS Announces Michael E. Burch as Lead Administrator for Operations and Student Support
Michael E. Burch has been appointed as the lead administrator for operations and student support for Alexandria City High School (ACHS), effective April 10, 2023. In the role as ACHS’ lead administrator, Burch assists the executive principal and campus administrator in leading the daily operations and student support services of the campus. He also collaborates with all building administrators and teachers to ensure the operations of the campus are well planned and efficient in the delivery of student services and overall support.
“Mr. Burch has served the Titan students and staff for the past 13 years as an athletics coach, a teacher, a testing coordinator and an assistant principal,” ACHS Executive Principal Peter Balas said. “He has proven himself an effective and efficient leader who is dedicated to our students, staff and Titan community. I am confident that his skills, knowledge and experience will result in the continued success of ACHS.”
Burch joined Alexandria City Public Schools (ACPS) in 2010. He has served as assistant principal at the ACHS - King Street Campus since 2020. Prior to that, Burch was coordinator of testing and a leadership team member at ACHS - Minnie Howard Campus. He has also served as ACHS substitute administrator, summer school administrator, assistant director of student activities and as a health, physical education and driver educator teacher.
Burch earned a Bachelor of Science degree in education, physical education at the Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (now known as Virginia Tech). He also received a Master of Science degree in education, curriculum and instruction, and physical education from Virginia Tech. Burch has post-master’s certification in educational leadership and administration from The George Washington University. He holds certifications in administration and supervision PreK-12, physical, health and driver education: postgraduate certification, PreK-12, State of Virginia.
