Employee Health & Wellness: Physical Wellness in the Winter

Employee Health & Wellness: Physical Wellness in the Winter

As the temperature continues to drop and we approach the official start of winter in two weeks, staying consistent with an exercise routine can become more challenging. Some of your favorite exercise activities such as taking walks, going for runs or riding bikes may not be possible due to the weather. Although your preferred environment may not be feasible during the winter, being active and maintaining physical wellness is still possible.

Alexandria has eight recreation centers and, as an ACPS employee, access is free to these centers. Swimming, basketball, weightlifting and more are all offered at the city’s facilities. ACPS employees can visit anytime during operation hours and are only required to show their ACPS badge to enter.

Another way to stay warm and keep fit is by exercising at home. Exercises such as push-ups, sit-ups and jumping jacks are a great way to build strength and endurance. If you enjoy workout classes, finding exercise videos online is a great way to get a similar experience in the comfort of your own home.

If you are looking for an inside activity outside of your home environment, a popular winter exercise that experts suggest is mall walking. Walking with a friend or on your own around your local shopping center or mall gives you the opportunity to get out of the house and exercise all while continuing to stay warm.
