Employee Health & Wellness: Sticking to New Year’s Resolutions

Employee Health & Wellness: Sticking to New Year’s Resolutions

The start of a new year is a time when many people reflect and envision what they want to accomplish. Whether it is physical wellness, spending more with family and friends or making more time for yourself, the start of 2023 can be a great time to begin working on your goals.

A good start is to simply write your resolutions down following the SMART goal method. Making your goals specific, measurable, achievable, realistic and timely can help you achieve your resolutions within a reasonable timeframe.

Another common strategy used is to make a vision board. A vision board is a collage of images that reflect your goals and aspirations. This can be done by collecting magazines to cut and paste photos and words on a board or sheet of paper. If you prefer to make a digital vision board, you can find images online and use tools such as Canva or Google Docs to format the collage. This visual serves as a daily reminder of your desired goals and the accomplishments you wish to achieve by a certain date or time frame.

A key factor in staying committed to your New Year resolutions is giving yourself grace. Breaking old habits or making a lifestyle change can be challenging. Experts suggest writing down at least one thing a day you have accomplished or which you are proud of on a regular basis (e.g. daily, weekly, monthly). If you make mistakes along the way, stay encouraged and get back on track.
