Employee Health & Wellness: Time Management Tips

Employee Health & Wellness: Time Management Tips

At the start of a new year, people generally feel an increase in motivation. The idea of a fresh start gives people an extra push to break old habits and adopt new lifestyle changes for the year ahead. Managing a new lifestyle can be challenging, but careful planning and time management can help set you up for success.

The first step to successful time management is determining where you devote the majority of your time. Figuring out what takes up the bulk of your day and evaluating what may need more or less of your time can help you prioritize.

From there, experts suggest setting priorities by breaking your tasks down into four categories: urgent, non-urgent, important and not important. Categorizing which tasks need to be taken care of immediately and which ones can wait allows you to rank items in order of priority.

Another key component of time management is figuring out what planning tool works best for you. Physical planners are extremely common but digital planners, cell phone calendar reminders and wall charts are some other ways that can help keep you organized.

Maintaining your motivational stamina can be tough, but getting organized and learning how to manage your time can help you achieve your goals. For more information and tips on time management, visit our partner, United Healthcare’s Everyday Time Management webinar.
