Your Voice Makes a Difference in the ACPS Equity Climate Survey

Your Voice Makes a Difference in the ACPS Equity Climate Survey

The third annual Alexandria City Public Schools (ACPS) Equity for All Climate Survey is now open and is a vital part of our ongoing mission to ensure success and address barriers to learning. We urge all preK-12 families, staff and students in Grades 6-12 to take the survey and share your thoughts with ACPS leadership.

The results allow ACPS to find out more about your views of the school division when it comes to student learning, social emotional support and a welcoming environment for all. Your input can help ACPS achieve and maintain an environment in our schools that is aligned with the goals in the ACPS 2025: Equity for All Strategic Plan. Data from this survey will be used to inform school and department improvement efforts, highlight the areas that are working and serve as a way to evaluate key areas as the survey is conducted each year.

“This survey is a crucial tool in developing department and school improvement plans each year,” said Interim Superintendent Dr. Melanie Kay-Wyatt. “We want to thank all of our students, staff and families who participate in this equity climate survey. It is so important for us to reflect on what we are hearing in this survey and be able to compare responses from year to year as we support our students and work to fulfill division goals.”

One school, for example, used last year’s equity climate data — along with other family and student feedback — to increase a focus on community outreach and relationship building. School administrators and staff partnered with the Family and Community Engagement (FACE) team to host principal’s coffees and family learning events, and hold community days when teachers meet up with students and families to have fun at designated locations in their neighborhoods.

The survey is open through Sun., Feb. 26, 2023, and includes about 30 questions which take about 10-15 minutes to complete. An independent third-party organization administers the survey, and all responses are confidential. The survey is available online in English, Spanish, Dari, Amharic and Arabic.
