The Secret Seven

African American parents banding against racism The Secret Seven was an invisible force of African American parents that fought for sidewalks so children could safely walk to school, play areas so children could play, and for chalk, pencils, and paper so that the African-American children could learn. Their activism pushed Alexandria forward toward integration when the city’s leadership was still adverse to change. The children of the parents who fought against racism in Alexandria’s schools tell their story revealing another piece of our history, lest it be forgotten.
