Preschool Registration

VPI Eligibility Requirements for School Year 2024–2025

  1. Age
    • Your child must be 3 or 4 years old by September 30 
  2. Residency
  3. Income
    • Families with income below 200% of the federal poverty guideline percentage are eligible to apply. (Please refer to the Federal Income table)
    • Families with income between 201%–350% are eligible to apply if they meet one or more of the following criteria: 
      • Child identified with special needs and the child has an Individual Education Program (IEP).
      • Parents or guardians did not complete high school. 
      • Family is experiencing homelessness.
      • Parent is under 20 years old. 
      • Family speaks another primary language other than English.
      • Parent/guardian is having issues finding and maintaining stable employment or is a seasonal employee.
      • Parent is in jail or prison. 
      • Experiencing violence at home.
      • Concerns about alcohol and/or drug use. 
      • Parent/guardian is currently on long-term military deployment. 
      • Child lives in a foster care home.
      • Family is currently experiencing changes in the household or community that are causing stress at this time. 
    • Families with income over 350% are also eligible to apply if they meet one or more of the following criteria:
      • Child identified with special needs and the child has an Individual Education Program (IEP).
      • Family is experiencing homelessness.
      • Parents or guardians did not complete high school.

How to Apply for the 2024-2025 School Year

Important VPI Registration Process and Deadlines

April  2024

2024-2025 School Year applications open in late April 2024. An ALX Preschool registrar will review your application and contact families within 10–15 business days. 

May 31, 2024

1st Priority Consideration deadline: Families that complete registration by 

May 31, 2024 will be considered for acceptance and notified by email upon selection. Selected families must complete an acceptance letter by June 12, 2024, to confirm a seat.

July 1, 2024

2nd Priority Consideration deadline: Families that complete registration by 

July 1, 2024, will be considered for acceptance and notified by email upon selection. Selected families must complete an acceptance letter by July 5, 2024, to confirm a seat.

August 1, 2024

3rd Priority Consideration deadline:  Families that complete registration by 

August 1, 2024, will be considered for acceptance and notified by email upon selection. Selected families must complete an acceptance letter by August 7, 2024, to confirm a seat.

Teacher assignments will be emailed to families that completed the acceptance letter.

August 13-20, 2024

Teachers contact families before the start of the school year to set up a "family meet and greet" to get to know you and your child before preschool begins. This is to help the child make a smooth transition from home to school and to create a positive connection between the teacher and your family. 

August 21, 2024

First day of preschool for VPI students.

August 5, 2024- March 1, 2025

Families that complete registration will be placed on the waitlist until a space becomes available.
