ACPS student promotion policies

The Alexandria City School Board intends for each student to attain the highest level of individual achievement possible. Alexandria City Public Schools (ACPS) shall base student promotion on demonstrated grade-level proficiency in the core content areas. 

English and mathematics are the core content areas for grades K-3. English, mathematics, science and social studies are the core content areas for grades 4-12. 

ACPS shall not promote any student based solely on chronological age. Schools will provide the appropriate interventions to those students not demonstrating sufficient academic progress.
