ACHS Remember the Titans Night on Sept. 29, 2023, Honors 1971 Football Team
Support the Alexandria City High School (ACHS) varsity football team as they celebrate Remember the Titans Night and compete against West Springfield High School on Fri., Sept. 29, 2023. Game day marks 23 years since the U.S. premiere of “Remember the Titans,” based on the true story of coach Herman Boone and his efforts to integrate the T.C. Williams High School (now ACHS) football team in 1971. Some members of the iconic T.C. Williams' team will be at the game and take part in the festivities.
“This event is significant because of the historical knowledge these men can pass down to our current players. We have to show our student athletes what legacy looks like and how to leave a great legacy,” Executive Director of Athletics and Student Activities James Parker said. “The movie obviously has given our school and community great popularity because it is one of the best sports movies in history. The movie gives all of our student athletes something to be proud of and to aspire to.”
On game day, the ACHS football team will be sporting red tops and white pants and will come out onto the field to the famous Titans, “Everywhere we go… people want to know” chant resounding through the crowd. A ceremonial “coin toss” will include members of the 1971 Titans team who will be introduced during half-time activities. “Our players are excited to hear from and be around living legends,” Parker said.
The 1971 Titans recorded a 13-0 season, won the state championship and were national runners-up. Come join the ACPS community and cheer on our 2023 Titans to victory! Game time on Sept. 29 is 7 p.m. Ticket information is available at actitans.org.
