ACPS Announces Jeanette Vinson as Principal of George Washington Middle School

Alexandria City Public Schools (ACPS) is excited to announce that Jeanette Vinson has been selected as the new principal at George Washington Middle School (GWMS) after serving as the school’s acting principal since January 2023. This appointment was effective May 29, 2023. As principal, Vinson directs the development of the school vision and establishes and maintains the school philosophy and educational programs, consistent with community characteristics and school division goals and practices.

“Mrs. Vinson has been committed to ACPS, having served in a variety of instructional and leadership roles within the division. Her long-standing service has shown that she is dedicated to ACPS and George Washington Middle School,” Executive Director of School Leadership Dr. Pierrette Finney said. “She is an equity-focused leader who is committed to ensuring the George Washington Middle School excels to new heights of excellence. Mrs. Vinson is a leader who truly cares about her school community, and I am confident that she will lead with excellence!”

Vinson joined ACPS in 2003. She previously served as an academic principal at GWMS since 2016. Prior to that she was dean of students, an administrative intern and a special education teacher, as well as a Saturday school coordinator. Before joining ACPS, Vinson was a special education teacher at Kettering Middle School in Upper Marlboro, Maryland.

Vinson has a Bachelor of Science in special education from University of Maryland-Eastern Shore and a Master of Science in educational administration from Trinity University. She has a postgraduate professional license in administration and pre-K supervision and a special education collegiate professional license (ED/SLD/ID).
