We love highlighting the great work being done throughout our school division. As we close out the month of May, here are some featured news reports that helped to tell the stories from our wonderful Alexandria City Public Schools schools.
 
The Washington Post featured the Alexandria City School Board announcement of Interim Superintendent Dr. Melanie Kay-Wyatt as the new permanent superintendent for the school division. Dr. Kay-Wyatt will be the first permanent Black female superintendent for ACPS.
 
Liza Burrell-Aldana, principal of Mount Vernon Community School in Alexandria, is The Washington Post’s Principal of the Year
Mount Vernon Community School Principal Dr. Liza Burrell-Aldana was named as the 2023 Washington Post Principal of the Year, having been selected from principals in the Washington metropolitan area who were nominated for this annual award.
 
Building Design and Construction highlighted the ACPS Connected High School Network and discussed what students, families and community members can expect once the new building is completed in 2024.
 
The Zebra highlighted Alexandria City Public Schools’ collaboration with The Miracle League of Alexandria to expand hours of operation to better support students.
