Alexandria City Celebrates Essential Workers for the Fourth Annual Appreciation Week

Alexandria City Celebrates Essential Workers for the Fourth Annual Appreciation Week

The fourth annual Alexandria City Essential Workers Appreciation Week celebration brought the community together to pay tribute to these vital employees who serve in various capacities throughout Alexandria City Public Schools (ACPS). On March 19, 2025, a special event was planned and co-hosted by  ACPS and the Alexandria Police Department in collaboration with the City of Alexandria at Douglas MacArthur Elementary School.

“I want our essential workers to know how grateful we are for all you do to assist the school division in providing an exceptional educational experience for all students. Your roles are vital and valuable to serving our schools and community,” said Douglas MacArthur Principal Penny Hairston.

The essential workers celebration included first responders, as well as ACPS staff from bus drivers and monitors to nutrition staff, nurses and counselors, custodians and building engineers, security personnel, teachers, instructional assistants and support staff.

“What all of our essential workers have in common is their dedication to service with the best interests of our students and staff at heart. It is this unwavering commitment that makes essential workers most deserving of our appreciation during this special week and all year long,” added Superintendent Dr. Melanie Kay-Wyatt.

School Board members,  Alexandria City Council members and City of Alexandria community partners and staff were all present to recognize the exceptional and essential workers across Alexandria. Share in the celebration by viewing our Alexandria City Essential Workers Recognition Event photo reel.
