SUN Bucks Program Offers Families Money for Summer Groceries

SUN Bucks Program Offers Families Money for Summer Groceries

The Alexandria City Public Schools (ACPS) Office of School Nutrition Services would like to inform all ACPS families of a new summer Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT) program. Households may be automatically eligible to receive $120 per qualifying school-aged child to buy groceries through Virginia SUN Bucks.

Students are automatically enrolled in Virginia SUN Bucks if they receive Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) or Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) benefits or participate in an income-eligible Medical Assistance program (such as Medicaid). Students who received free or reduced-price school meals during the 2023-24 school year based on a submitted and approved application are also automatically enrolled in Virginia SUN Bucks.

Households of students who attended a Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) school during the 2023-24 school year will need to apply for SUN Bucks as they are not automatically eligible unless they were approved based on Direct Certification (SNAP, TANF, Medicaid, Homeless or Foster status) eligibility.

Visit Virginia Sun Bucks for more information beginning July 1, 2024. The Virginia SUN Bucks webpage will be updated regularly throughout the summer with information on eligibility, how to apply and when SUN Bucks will be issued. Families should not contact their school or the Office of School Nutrition Services as neither are responsible for the distribution of SUN Bucks.
