If you are ready to take your teaching to the next level, attend a National Board Certification information session to see if it might be right for you. National Board Certified Teachers (NBCT) earn the teaching profession’s highest honor. The certification process identifies accomplished teachers through a rigorous program that includes four components comprising one exam and three portfolio submissions. Through the NBCT process, dedicated teachers demonstrate their commitment to teaching and maintaining the industry’s highest standards.
National Board Certification benefits include:
- An opportunity for teachers to grow and challenge themselves.
- Recognition of accomplished teachers.
- Potential salary increases and leadership opportunities.

To be eligible for certification, applicants must:
- Hold a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution;
- Have at least three full years of teaching experience by the end of the 2025-26 school year; and
- Hold a valid teaching license.
ACPS supports a two-year submission timeframe during which teachers participate in monthly meetings, are part of a professional learning community and receive support on the technical aspects of the process. ACPS also funds most of the $1,975 cost for the majority of selected candidates.
