Understanding ACPS Salary Scale Changes and 2023-24 Contracts

Understanding ACPS Salary Scale Changes and 2023-24 Contracts

Staff are invited to join an Alexandria City Public Schools (ACPS) Question-and-Answer Webinar at 4 p.m. on Tue., June 6, 2023, that will address changes to the 2023-24 ACPS salary scales. Webinar information will be shared before June 6 for employees interested in participating in this session. Contract notifications will go out to employees in batches, beginning the week of June 5, and we ask that staff please review and confirm acceptance via the electronic signature process as soon as possible.

The Alexandria City School Board has approved both a step and market rate adjustment (MRA) for all employee groups. A key feature for 2023-24 is the removal of the bottom and both hold steps, as well as the addition of a new step at the top of the scale.

Some key features to note:

  • These changes will result in a salary increase for all employees, which is the largest average increase for all employees over the past five years.
  • All salary scales have been restructured and each one now has two fewer steps.
  • Once employees have received their contracts, questions can be sent to ask@acps.k12.va.us; please do not include any confidential information and allow time for our HR team to process a response.

The new salary scales will be published shortly with a conversion table that illustrates the removal of the bottom step and hold steps, as well as identifies the new step added to the top. We consulted with the Education Association of Alexandria (EAA) to provide this information early and an overview of the new scales to help ensure we are best communicating with all staff.
