Architectural Design and Renderings

Welcome to the New Patrick Henry School!

The new Patrick Henry K-8 School is now open, welcoming students and the community into a modern, state-of-the-art learning environment. Opening on January 20, 2019, the 138,600-square-foot facility expands capacity to serve up to 900 students in kindergarten through eighth grade, a significant increase from the previous 650 students in Pre-K through grade 5.

Developed through a longstanding partnership between Alexandria City Public Schools and the City of Alexandria Department of Recreation, Parks and Cultural Activities, the project reflects nearly five years of coordinated planning and problem-solving.

“This wonderful new facility is a game-changer both for our students and the West Side of Alexandria. Our students deserve this building that works for 21st century learning needs and I cannot wait to see their faces,” says Principal Dr. Ingrid Bynum.

The co-located Patrick Henry Neighborhood Recreation Center further enhances the campus, featuring 19,000 square feet of dedicated recreation space. Amenities include indoor walking and running lanes, a flexible court with basketball, volleyball, and pickleball, multipurpose rooms for community programming, and dedicated spaces for arts, fitness, and play. An additional 12,000 square feet of shared space includes a black box theater, full-size gymnasium, and multipurpose room, supporting both school-day activities and community use.
