Office of Educational Facilities

Educational Facilities

The Alexandria City Public Schools (ACPS) Office of Educational Facilities is responsible for non-capacity capital improvement projects. Examples of non-capacity projects include major building additions, HVAC system replacements and new installations, roofing system replacements, and exterior building envelope enhancements. These projects may be included in the ACPS Modernization Program, recommendations from the facilities condition assessment process or encompassed within the 10-year Capital Improvement Program budget.

Please visit each school's facility webpages for information on planned repairs and the status of ongoing project work.

Targeted Facilities Assessments

ACPS Upgrades and Modernization Assessments

A team of expert consultants spent the summer of 2019 conducting assessments of high needs buildings in the Alexandria City Public Schools (ACPS) division. The resulting draft report (PDF) prioritized repairs and improvements that are needed urgently as well as those that can wait an additional year or two. ACPS will be requesting funding to address the needs and follow through on the recommendations in the upcoming budget cycle.

The schools that were highlighted for upgrades include:

  • Francis C. Hammond Middle School

  • George Washington Middle School

  • Cora Kelly School for Math, Science and Technology

  • George Mason Elementary School

  • Naomi L. Brooks Elementary School

In addition, the ACPS Transportation Facility was added to the list of those buildings in need of urgent attention.

You may visit the Non-Capacity Project Overview webpage for information on these upgrades.
